What’s this about?

Firstly, thank you for already showing your support by visiting this site! ♥

This Year’s Mission (COMPLETE, next year’s target coming soon!): Raise $2,500 for cancer research (AACR) in 2025, with 25 country high points summited. (remaining 21 high points by 2027)

There are a few reasons the “Crown of Europe” challenge felt like a good match for a cancer research fundraiser. There are the more cliché analogies of mountains representing challenges to overcome, but this isn’t as risky as the Seven Summits, as demanding as the Colorado 14ers, or as extensive as the Scottish Munros. This isn’t a sprint or an ultra marathon, and it’s not about breaking records. This is about community and recognizing that cancer looks different for everyone. Cancer is a group of diseases, not one, so research is critical – there is so much left to learn and so many treatments and cures left to find.

Some of the 46 country high points are reachable by car, while one legally requires a mountain guide (unless you are one yourself). There are casual strolls and more challenging mountaineering ascents. No two people who attempt a challenge like this will have the same experience (and I do hope others will join in!). There is no consensus on what the toughest high points are, the best season for each one, nor what the official list even is. This is partly because it’s not a very popular challenge to do, in general. Cancer knowledge was like this years ago…with much higher stakes. It is organizations like AACR driving awareness and building resources and communities that is enabling progress. Cancer research may not feel as tangible a cause if we can’t see the people ultimately impacted by our efforts, directly – it’s no GoFundMe. Those are important as well. Still, if you’re reading this, you’ve likely been impacted by cancer in some way. 88 cents of every dollar donated to AACR is going directly to research that is already transforming statistics. I invite you to check out ‘The Cause‘ and ‘The Challenge‘ pages for more information. Stay tuned for updates on the high points themselves.
